Death of Bin Laden | An Old Soldiers View
63Death of Bin Laden Announced
Justice is done. Osama Bin Laden killed by a bullet delivered by a US Navy Seal Team Member. The US is celebrating today the death of the mastermind of the Sept 11, 2001 attacks on the US. While I’m not personally inclined to dance at the news; I take some pride in the affirmation to the world that we will follow through until the mission is done. An affirmation to our friends and enemies alike, that we can, and will do it on our own if we don’t or can’t rely on the help of our ‘friends’.
I would like to also take a moment to comment on the Presidents leadership in the development and execution of this operation. It was a clear demonstration of political leadership, and I commend him for it. I hope he will continue to apply it more often in the future. There is still much to be done.
This operation also highlighted a success of the CIA’s intelligence collection effort going back as far as 2005. The professionalism of the Navy Seals, and the Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), from the planning, logistics, and execution of the mission through the disposition of his body, has served as a hallmark for future operations of this kind. I offer a salute and a Hooah! To all involved.
As I write this, there is already commentary on TV that pictures must be released to prove to the world that it really is Osama Bin Laden. I would not be surprised if they are not released in the near future or ever. Odds are pretty high that the ‘head’ shot was done with a .50 caliber Barrett Sniper Rifle, if so, there would be few if any ways to mask the gruesome result of this weapon, and to be honest because of this it may do more harm than good to release it.
That having been said, I would find a way if I could to deliver a copy of it to the Taliban Leadership as a simple reminder of the guaranteed result of attacking the US and our interests. You may be able to hide for a while, but justice will eventually visit you and have its day. You may want to watch the video below….
History Lesson
I find it an interesting point in history that 66 years to the day, Hitler and Bin Laden died for essentially the same cause. Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, Syria, take note. Good will ultimately triumph over evil.

At last!!!
Great write and I agree completely that there will be much more to do. Having destroyed one head of the snake is a victory for our troops and leadership. It feels good to have a victory after so long. If our troops were ALLOWED to, we would have been kicking some serious ass from the late 60's on and we may have had a different place in the world ... at least in the respect department!
Fantastic, awesome hub! I wondered about the picture. This is a great day of victory for the USA!
Hmrjmr I think this is a great day for all of America and I cannot even begin to tell you how happy I am. As much as I have been anti Obama on this one I have to give him some credit.
To quote Tertullian"This serpent sprouts heads faster than they can be cut off".

Death of Bin Laden is happy news. Obama rightly said, at Last justice have been done. It is a time for joy for peace. USA is excited with joy. But there is little joy in other parts of the world. Peace will come only when the celebration of joy will prevail everywhere.
Nice allocation of accolades, Hammer. Good work.
Heard this morning that he (Bin Laden) also took a round through the chest, listened to Rush debate with a caller the pros and cons of releasing the photos, and read in the online London Times that they may be released as early as to day.
Stress on the word "may", of course, which be default also means "or may not".
John - Being a former warrior, you understand what many fail to see. It's all about the man who makes the rubber meet the road. That's those who can pull the trigger, not those who think they can.
He got exactly what he deserved - maybe less than what he experienced. All this "I" this and "I" that make me chuckle. Obama wouldn't have the balls to pull the trigger on that sniper rifle.
Why do I say that? He never ventured out and met where the rubber meets the road. He just happened to be on "fire watch" when the action came down.
But I applaud Obama for being "Bush Lite."

This is good. The justice is done.
Hmrjmr1, I am impressed by your non-political hub and I like it. This seems like one of the few times that libs and conservatives can celebrate arm-in-arm. A gay Facebook friend posted a funny pic about Obama claiming he was too busy getting Osama to worry about the BC thing.
But I have to wonder... Would the liberals be as happy with the president's speech if he was the W.? I can remember that, not too recently, the left fiercely criticized the use of a tongue depressor on a humbled, mass murderer, psychopath that went by the name of Saddam. Just sayin, would it have been different?
Good read.
I truly enjoyed it. I will share it ....
Thanks for sharing.
Take Care,

Well done. Glad I found it. You always seem to hit the nail right on the head.
Great hub, and great work from the Navy seals, and from the President. However I am concerned about the fish in the ocean that may have ate him. God Bless You.
Outstanding hub regarding a significant event in the lives of Americans. Thank you for sharing.
My solute to Old Soldiers like you !!!!
I still don't think killing Bin Laden will solve the terrorist problem.. That will just fuel more tension and 10 more bin ladens will rise...
But good hub, enjoyed reading it!
He got what he deserved if he is indeed dead but I don't think photographs released would do anything but harm either. I would feel better if someone I trusted had witnessed it to make us more assured. When government leaves borders open to terrorists it is a little hard to have faith that they mean well.
Big John-- Thank you for this hub. I am glad he is dead. But there are more that could take his place. We cannot let our guard down. Thanks for serving. I spent eight years serving our country and proud of it.
