An Independent Voters View: A Strong Case for Term Limits
56Hey Folks! (That’s Georgia for Hello). As always I hope this finds you in good health and cheer. For my American friends pictured below is your house of representatives in action. For my foreign friends this picture may help explain why we mistrust our own representatives so. The man at the microphone, is the Republican Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero Jr, R-Norwalk he is speaking during the budget deliberations in the House of Representatives, now understand the budget was supposed to be passed by the 1st of October, but since the congress has been so ‘busy’ they had to vote to make temporary appropriations and delay the budget until 1 November (this will probably occur again soon).
What you may have noticed by now is Rep Barbara Lambert, D-Milford, and Rep Jack F Hennessy D-Bridgeport, playing solitaire on their laptops, Also two more unidentified Democrats (like Parliament the like parties sit together); One is checking Facebook, and the other is checking baseball scores. Now before them is also looming a 1900+ page healthcare bill that they all say they don’t have time to read so they will vote on it in the blind.
Folks, I do not believe this is just a Democrat Problem I
would be willing to bet there were folks on the right side of the chamber
similarly engaged. I do not trust any of them farther than I can throw them,
(oh what a joy it would be to be allowed to figure out how far that is).Though I am not repeat not advocating violence in any way. (Emphasis for US Secret Service)
We pay these people in excess of $150,000.00 per year, offer them first class ‘Cadillac’ Health care plans (over 30 to choose from), and a lifetime retirement that takes effect after 6 years (3 terms for the house and 1 term for the senate). This might well be worth it (I’ll leave it to others to argue that point) if they would actually do their job to some minimal acceptable standard. How many of you could pull this off during a meeting with your Boss, or during a business meeting were the subject was “How are we gonna operate the business next year?”
If this is not a clear and present reason to adopt term limits in our constitution, what will be?
I want to thank my good friend Max for bringing this to my attention. I strongly recommend you use the link below and let your congressman know what you think of this, along with Speaker Pelosi (D), and Rep John Boehner (R).

I would agree to term limits.
Congress, an area where a small salary equates to large riches. I think, just as private business, any money made off from being a congressman should be turned over to the government.
Keep on Hubbing!
I don't think we need worry about the SS, they are financially stressed and talk is they will turn most of their duties over to others and concentrate on protecting th Prez. This is no surprise to me how they spend their time and our money. I am not a believer of term limits, that is what the polling booth is for on election day. I am in favor of a one party system called the Constitutional party of we the people. We need to obliterate the present partisan politics. Absolutely no partisanship, period. Then our Reps would be more inclined to be loyal to the people instead of their respective party. It will never happen though.
Dear hmrjmr,
You know what they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. I could spit (ala 50 caliber) I am so angry. Great hub. Come for breakfast Monday bright and early.
Now hold on there just a minute!
You're accusations about the Republicans are uncalled for.
Surely they were doing something more constructive with their time than playing solitaire. I am willing to bet that most all of them had a browser open to youtube watching some very notable people in history such as Lynard Skynard, Credence Clearwater Revival, and 38 Special just to name a few!
(All jokes aside, thank you for this article. I have to admit I couldn't imagine this being real and checked snopes, and the image is not listed there as a hoax. I was truly hoping that it was. This is sad, with so many people losing their jobs, etc. On the other hand when these people in the picture are the ones we rely on to represent us, it's no small wonder things are in the condition they are.)
Thanks again for an eye opening article!
Sher
Dear hmrjmr,
I'm on it!!
You'll never see term limits from this group of thugs. They got too much at stake and too much money rolling in.
They'll ignore us and think we'll go away just like they did in the past!
Thanks Hmrjmr1 for sharing this pic,..I am outraged, ...to say the very least, but it's no surprise to me. I am just glad it has been documented, now people have something solid to stand on when they are writing letters to thier congressman with thier complaints and concern's, in which I hope their mailboxes gets bomb barded with. Now I am off to twitterland, I got about 500 friends I'd like to share this with. HOOAH !!!!
Not to detract from your central argument about term limits - which I support - but that picture shows those Congresspeople killing time on their computers because the Republicans were filibustering (i.e. content-free blabbering). And you can be sure that whenever anyone filibusters, everyone is trying to find something to do...
What an eye opener! It's sad to think that this happens in a place like this, but I think I can understand it; not that it makes it right, by ANY means. You are there, elected by the people, to represent US, as a whole, and be the voice for your state. To think it happens is sad, but to know why is a different thing.
If they get this bored, why bother going into politics?
Money speaks, that's for sure.
The picture just bears out my suspicions that Obama (excuse me while I spit) nor congress (excuse me while I rinse my mouth and spit a shot of shine)Fear anything about this bill as the brunt will knock the common man down not them.
I would hope that the results of this behavior will shake the voting booths in 2010.
You sir, are now in the running with Breakfast Pop in getting me drinking early in the morning.
Keep it up!
I would say, an eye opener, but unfortunately I'm really not that surprised. The whole country is going under and we have solitaire on computer screens in Congress! Makes a person sick!
Right on! I'll be happy to sling or not sling a vote in their directions! Pour one of those Gold's for me, too!
